Labeling is on the Format menu. It makes a label style for headlines in the outline and for bullet charts. You can have different labeling styles at any level of your information. You can use scope rules to apply labeling styles over a range of levels. MORE has the following preset labeling styles:
No Labels Does not attach any labels to headlines.
Leader characters Uses leader character symbols to show the basic outline structure. In cases where a headline has several structures, the most descriptive leader character will be displayed. The leader characters are:
+ The headline has subheadlines.
+ The headline has subheadlines and a document window.
— The headline does not have subheadlines and does not have a document window.
— The headline does not have subheadlines, but it does have a document window.
& The headline is a clone, but it does not have a document window.
& The headline is a clone and it has a document window.
Harvard Uses a mixture of Roman numerals, letters, and Arabic numerals. This style has been traditionally used for outlines.
Numeric Uses one Arabic number at each headline.
Legal Uses a series of Arabic numbers and periods to show the relative level and placement of each headline in the outline.
Bullets Places a bullet (•) before each headline.
Custom Labels Lets you design your own labels. You can specify up to eight characters in any font, font size, font style, and text color. When you choose Custom Labels, MORE displays a dialog box with the following options:
Radio Buttons Lets you choose one of the predefined label styles: No Labels, Leader Characters, Harvard, Numeric, Legal, or Custom.
Custom Type-in box Lets you specify the text of a custom label when you click the Custom radio button. You can also define “smart characters,” letters and numbers that MORE automatically understands as symbols for a style of labeling through outline levels. MORE can recognize whether these characters are “smart” or just part of a custom word. For example, MORE knows that the “I” in “Item” is not a smart character. By typing one or more smart characters, MORE automatically knows what you want at each level.
Font Displays a pop-up menu of available fonts.
Size Displays a pop-up menu of available font sizes.
Style Displays a pop-up menu of available font styles. Like other Macintosh text, you can apply more than one style. If you make a mistake, just select Plain and start again. Plain removes other previously selected styles.
Color Displays a pop-up menu of available colors. Choosing Custom Color… on the pop-up menu directly displays the Color Editor, where you can select other colors for the pop-up palette. This option is only available for Macintosh II users.
